Maximizing Productivity with a Wall Calendar: Time Management Strategies for a Busy Professional with Multiple Commitments

I get asked a lot how I get so much done when I have so many demands on my time. My secret? A wall calendar.

As a highly organized and productive individual with a day job, an elected position on a governance body, and my own UGC travel business, time management is crucial to my success. One tool that has proven particularly effective for me in this regard is a wall calendar.

By physically writing out my schedule on a large, visible calendar, I can easily see at a glance what I have planned for the day, week, or month ahead. This is especially important for me given the multiple demands on my time from my day job, my elected position, and my business.

To make the most of my wall calendar, I chunk my time into blocks dedicated to specific tasks or projects. For example, I might block out a few hours in the morning to focus on work tasks, followed by an hour or two in the afternoon for my elected position, and then dedicate the evening to my business. This helps me to stay focused and avoid getting overwhelmed by trying to juggle too many things at once.

In addition to chunking my time in this way, I also use my wall calendar to schedule in breaks and downtime. It’s important to take breaks and rest in order to stay energized and focused, and by scheduling these in advance on my calendar, I can make sure that I’m taking care of myself and avoiding burnout.

To further help me stay organized, I use a variety of colors and symbols on my calendar to represent each of my different commitments. For example, I might use one color for my day job, another for my elected position, and another for my business. This helps me quickly identify what each item on my calendar represents and prioritize my time accordingly.

Overall, my wall calendar is an essential part of my time management toolkit, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results it has helped me achieve. By chunking my time and staying organized with my calendar, I’m able to stay focused and make the most of every day, despite the many demands on my time.

This totally isn’t my calendar. But I have so much confidential stuff on mine, I couldn’t photograph it. So here’s someone else’s calendar with the general idea.
